About

I began this travel blog in 2015, when Marg and I toured Vietnam and Cambodia with our good friends Ian and Theresa. I like to think of that trip as our long overdue long service leave trip.

The blog was resurrected for our Europe trip in 2019, and I’ve used it in subsequent travels.

I’m hoping to post something every day (time and internet access permitting). If you’re interested in following our travels, you can subscribe to the blog in the right hand menu. You will receive email alerts when new posts go online.

I’d also welcome any comments you wish to make on my blog entries. Please don’t hesitate to make recommendations or reminisce about your own travels in the places we’re visiting.

Cheers,

Garry

  1. Hi Garry,

I found this site when wondering how to contact you after your comment on my 1950s Melbourne site. Our grandparents were cousins, as you would have found out. I live in Brisbane.

    1. Hi Joan,
Thanks for writing back. As I commented, I found your blog really interesting.
And, yes, knowing that my Nana’s parents were first cousins certainly made it a real challenge to get her Cother branch of my family tree sorted out. My Dad, Ron, became interested in his family history late in his life. He mistakenly thought the Cothers were connected to a village in Yorkshire named Cotherstone and once even travelled there (but failed to find any evidence to confirm his theory). It was only after he passed away that I took up his quest and discovered the family origins were more closely linked to Gloucestershire and surrounds. Not surprisingly, coming from that area, I’ve discovered coal miners and agricultural labourers. Dad always thought he was related to a Cother who was knighted in the War of the Roses. I haven’t found any evidence of that yet, but I’ll keep searching.
      Best wishes
      Garry
