We took a late afternoon cruise on the Tonle Sap and Mekong Rivers. It had rained a little and as the sky cleared and the sun went down, the cloud formations looked quite spectacular. The boat slowly chugged along, following the riverbank past the Royal Palace before taking the bend around the massive new Sokha Hotel and into the main river. All along the banks there was evidence of poverty, particularly the boat dwellers who live almost on the doorstep of the luxury hotel. This is one of the sad truths about Cambodia – the distribution of wealth here seems so uneven.
