It had rained fairly heavily around midday when we were eating lunch at Ta Van, and this continued when we returned to Sapa. It never looked like easing, so we found a balcony table on the second floor of a bar overlooking the main street and spent the afternoon watching the people below come and go, including the lovely Red Dao and Black Hmong women peddling their handicrafts to the tourists passing by. The rain got heavier and heavier and eventually a deluge was pouring down the hill flooding the gutters. We ducked into the nearest store to buy $3 umbrellas and made our way back to the hotel.
