Notre Dame

Just under three weeks ago, the historic Notre Dame cathedral in Paris was on fire. The world was shocked, and many people declared this a tragedy, vowing to contribute funds to its restoration. This didn’t go down too well with a lot of people, especially here in France. There was the anti-Catholic church sentiment involved here for some, with people arguing that it was wrong for one of the wealthiest organisations in the world, the Catholic Church, to be putting its hand out for donations. Others argued that it was obscene for the French government to be putting a large amount of cash into the restoration effort, while in other parts of the country people were not able to earn a living wage.

The streets around Notre Dame were blocked today, most likely to keep sightseers out of the way, but here’s a few photos I took from both the hop-on, hop-off bus and the river cruise. If you look closely you can spot some of the places where damage occurred. As you can see, the weather today was quite unpredictable. It was just as if we had four seasons in one day.
